Argentina Salta City Bans Vaping in Enclosed Public and Work Spaces
The City Council of Salta, Argentina, has approved a new ordinance declaring the city “Free of Tobacco Smoke and Electronic Device Emissions.” This measure, passed on Wednesday, prohibits both traditional smoking and the use of vaping devices (e-cigarettes) in numerous enclosed public and private access spaces.
The ban aims to promote healthier environments and prevent public health risks by limiting the consumption of these products. Prohibited locations include public administration workplaces (municipal, provincial, and national), enclosed common areas, private establishments with public access, children’s playgrounds, and sports sectors in squares and parks. The ordinance also forbids the consumption, sale, promotion, or free distribution of tobacco products and electronic devices in public buildings and municipal autonomous entities.
The Secretariat of Public Spaces and Citizen Protection will oversee compliance, manage complaints, and implement preventive policies and public information campaigns. Additionally, the new legislation establishes May 31st as “Salta Municipal Day, Free of Tobacco Smoke and Electronic Device Emissions” to raise community awareness about the dangers associated with these products.
