Netherlands Bans Sale of All Nicotine Pouches and Widens Tobacco Rules
The Dutch government announced that it would ban the sale of all types of nicotine pouches in the Netherlands. The new regulations will also extend the existing rules for tobacco to include all other tobacco-free nicotine products.
Under the current regulations, nicotine pouches are only allowed for sale if they contain less than 0.035 grams of nicotine. However, the government stated that the complete ban would make it easier to enforce the rules surrounding these products.
In addition to the ban on sales, the new rules will also prohibit the use of nicotine pouches and other tobacco-free nicotine products in places where smoking is already not allowed. This measure aims to create a consistent approach to regulating nicotine use in public spaces.
Furthermore, the government will end all advertising for tobacco-free nicotine products. This segment is considered essential for tobacco companies as they attempt to shift away from health-harming cigarettes and eventually become smoke-free.
