The Scottish Grocers’ Federation (SGF) has published an updated guide for retailers selling vaping and tobacco products. The comprehensive resource, available as a PDF file, aims to help retailers navigate the complex laws governing the sale of these products and prepare for the upcoming ban on single-use vapes.

Detailed Information on Compliance

The guide provides retailers with detailed information on several key aspects of selling vaping and tobacco products, including:

1. Product Compliance: Retailers can find information on what constitutes a compliant product and how to ensure they are selling only legally permitted items.
2. Retailers’ Responsibilities: The guide outlines the specific responsibilities that retailers have when selling these products, such as age verification and proper record-keeping.
3. Identifying Disposable Vapes: With the upcoming ban on single-use vapes, the guide provides information on how to identify these products to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

In addition to the information on product compliance and retailer responsibilities, the guide also includes updated advice for retailers on complying with Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations specific to vape sales. SGF Chief Executive Dr. Pete Cheema emphasized the importance of the updated guide, stating, “There are big changes coming down the road for retailers regarding the sale of vape and tobacco products, including a full ban on the sale of single-use vapes from 1st June 2025.”

He added, “We have therefore prepared this updated guide to our previous version published first in 2016 and then an updated version in 2023, so that retailers have a useful resource to help ensure they are familiar with and understand the key elements of the laws on the sale of tobacco products and e-cigarettes, which are currently in force.”
