Experts say Thailand will legalize e-cigarettes in May

According to ENDS Cigarette Smoke Thailand (ECST), Thailand currently prohibits the use of e-cigarettes, but is discussing the end of the ban.

Thailand is reportedly set to legalize e-cigarettes by 2023 after a ban has been in place for years. The regulation of safer nicotine products will encourage more smokers to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes and reduce smoking-related deaths and diseases in the country. The ENDS Cigarette Smoke Thailand (ECST) reports that the country is currently in discussions about ending the ban on e-cigarettes. Asa Saligupta, the director of ECST, said that e-cigarette legislation is waiting for approval by the Thai parliament.

The e-cigarette ban in Thailand has been a contentious issue for years, with anti-e-cigarette activists leading the charge against the products. However, according to Saligupta, most politicians and the public in Thailand support lifting the ban.

Safer Nicotine Products to Be Regulated

Saligupta believes that the regulation of safer nicotine products will provide better protection for consumers and encourage more smokers to quit their deadly habits. The regulation will also ensure that the age of purchase of e-cigarettes for teenagers is better controlled.

According to ECST, smoking causes about 50,000 deaths in Thailand each year. Saligupta believes that lifting the ban on e-cigarettes could significantly reduce smoking-related diseases and premature deaths in the country.

The implementation of these frameworks has led to a sharp decline in overall smoking rates in these countries.
