Balearic Islands to Ban Vape & Energy Drink Sales to Minors
The Balearic Islands government is drafting a new “Addictions Law” aimed at prohibiting the sale of vapes and energy drinks to individuals under 18 years old. Health Minister Manuela GarcÃa confirmed the plans, stating that the legislation would equate vapes with tobacco under state regulation, addressing the current loophole where they can be easily purchased in kiosks and candy stores.
GarcÃa highlighted the danger of flavored vapes (like mint or strawberry), which create a false perception of being harmless. While admitting the law is in an “embryonic” phase and won’t be immediate, the move signals a clear intent to restrict consumption among minors, potentially following the example of similar legislation recently approved in Galicia. The law will also specifically target the restriction of energy drink consumption for those under 18.
