Belarus Considers Complete Ban on E-Cigarettes

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus is contemplating a complete ban on electronic cigarettes following the country’s first reported case of a child’s death due to vaping. Vasily Demidovich, Deputy Head of the Department of Organization of Work of the Inspectorate for Juvenile Affairs, addressed the issue at the National Press Center of Belarus.

In March 2025, Belarus recorded its first incident of a minor losing consciousness and subsequently dying just minutes after using a vape. This tragic event has prompted law enforcement officials to reevaluate the current regulations surrounding e-cigarettes in the country.

Demidovich noted that according to World Health Organization (WHO) data, 30 countries worldwide have already implemented a complete ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes. In February, officers of the Inspectorate for Juvenile Affairs conducted a comprehensive set of activities to inform teenagers about the medical consequences of using vaping devices.

While the Ministry of Internal Affairs is considering a complete ban on electronic smoking systems, they are also exploring the possibility of introducing certain restrictions, such as excluding food flavorings from the composition of e-liquids.

As Belarus grapples with this devastating loss and the potential dangers of vaping, the Ministry of Internal Affairs remains committed to finding an effective solution to protect the health and well-being of the nation’s youth.
