Malaysia Prioritizes Enforcing Vape Laws, No Nationwide Ban Planned

Health Minister Stresses Regulatory Control, Praises State-Level Restrictions

The Malaysian federal government is focusing on robust enforcement of existing laws to regulate vape products, with no immediate plans for a nationwide ban, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed. He highlighted the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 as the comprehensive legal framework guiding this approach.

“When we enacted the Act, we took a firm and clear stance… our focus is on strict enforcement,” Dr Dzulkefly stated during a media briefing. He assured that the Ministry’s Inspectorate and Enforcement Division would carry out these efforts thoroughly and proactively.

While the federal position centers on regulation, Dr Dzulkefly praised state governments like Johor, Terengganu, and Kedah for their proactive leadership in choosing not to issue business licenses for vape sales. He encouraged other states to consider similar measures or, at minimum, ensure full compliance with the federal Act 852 through their local authorities. He stressed that ongoing collaboration between federal and state bodies is vital for consistent nationwide enforcement and protecting public health.
