France Cigarette Sales Plummet as Vaping Reaches Record Highs
The French Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT) has reported a historic decline in daily smoking, with fewer than one in five adults lighting up daily in 2024. This shift is accompanied by a rapid expansion of the vaping market.
Rising costs have heavily impacted traditional tobacco, while alternative products have doubled their market share to 8%.
| Metric | Traditional Tobacco (2025) | Vaping & Alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Market Trend | Sales volume down 8.2% | Daily use at 6.1% (Adults) |
| Cost / Share | €13 per pack (up from €7.05) | 8% market share for alternative products |
While the rise of e-cigarettes aids adult smoking cessation, health officials warn of potential youth initiation risks as daily vaping rates reach 6.8% among high school students.
