Hamburg Customs Seizes Illegal Vapes, Prevents €730k Tax Loss
Customs investigators in Hamburg, Germany, have dismantled a significant illegal e-cigarette operation, seizing nearly 3,000 liters of illicit vape liquid and preventing an estimated €730,000 in tax losses. Officials announced the successful raid on Wednesday, confirming the provisional arrest of four suspects linked to gang-related tax evasion.
The investigation uncovered online shops selling untaxed and non-compliant disposable vapes. Authorities allege the suspects shipped around 38,000 packages across Germany between 2023 and 2024, using bogus company names to hide their activities. The seized vapes contained oversized tanks (up to 40ml, far exceeding the 2ml limit) filled with approximately 2.8 million milliliters of liquid.
During the searches, investigators also confiscated €59,000 in cash and two blank-firing weapons. The large volume of seized liquids required multiple trucks for removal. Criminal proceedings are underway as the investigation continues.
