The Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates (CAPHRA) issued a stark warning. The organization stated that widespread misinformation about safer nicotine products, such as vapes, directly endangers millions of lives. This misinformation also severely undermines global public health initiatives.

Misinformation Obscures Harm Reduction Benefits

CAPHRA’s position statement reveals a critical issue. Persistent anti-vaping narratives, often amplified by influential health organizations, overshadow growing scientific evidence. This evidence supports tobacco harm reduction strategies. CAPHRA points to countries like the UK and New Zealand. These nations embrace evidence-based approaches and observe significant declines in smoking rates. However, CAPHRA notes that outdated ideologies still grip much of the world.

Nancy Loucas, a CAPHRA representative, specifically criticized the World Health Organisation. Loucas accused the WHO of “ignoring the science and silencing consumer voices.” CAPHRA argues this stance perpetuates the deadly smoking epidemic. The organization strongly urges governments and health authorities to adopt transparency and evidence-based policies. CAPHRA champions harm reduction as an essential tool to combat smoking-related diseases. “Public health policy should be based on facts, not fear or coercion,” Loucas emphasized, calling for pragmatic solutions over ideological battles.
