Argentina: Coronel Pringles Bans Indoor Vaping and Imposes Fines Up to 1.1 Million Pesos

Vaping News
Bahía Blanca Vape Ban, Argentina E-Cigarette Law

The Deliberative Council of Coronel Pringles has unanimously approved Ordinance 5,114/26, placing electronic cigarettes under the same strict indoor bans as traditional tobacco. Local lawmakers declared vapes, heated tobacco products, and similar devices “harmful to health,” citing toxic aerosols and rising youth usage as the primary drivers for the intervention.

The law bans the use, consumption, and handling of vaping devices in enclosed public spaces, whether publicly or privately managed. This restriction extends to educational institutions, healthcare facilities, sports centers, cultural venues, municipal offices, and public transit.

To ensure compliance, affected establishments must display clear signage warning customers of the ban. Mayor Lisandro Matzkin’s administration will oversee the enforcement, launch public awareness campaigns, and manage the penalty system.

Fines for individuals violating the ban range from 120,000 pesos to more than 1,135,500 pesos (equivalent to 50 to 500 fixed units). Businesses that fail to display the required warning signage face fines between 57,000 and 450,000 pesos.

Repeat offenders will face double the initial fine, alongside potential business closures or license suspensions. For cases involving minors, the municipality can substitute financial penalties with community service or mandatory health education.

Local councilors emphasized that the measure protects public health, particularly for children and teenagers. They noted that scientific studies show vape aerosols contain heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and ultrafine particles, debunking the false perception that these devices are harmless.
