Georgia: Dunwoody Bans Vape Shops Near Schools and Daycares

The Dunwoody City Council has unanimously approved an ordinance restricting where vape shops can operate. The zoning rules aim to keep these retailers away from children, following similar actions by neighboring municipalities in Georgia.

New Zoning Rules and Parent Concerns

While Dunwoody currently has no active vape shops, any future business must locate within designated commercial districts. The ordinance mandates strict buffer zones:

At least 600 feet from schools, daycare facilities, and places of worship.
At least 1,500 feet from another vape shop or gas station.

Local parent advocacy group Dunwoody Strong supported the measure, citing the rise of youth vaping. Group member Amy Halligan warned that product marketing directly targets minors. “The packaging and presentation are so cleverly designed to attract our children, which makes it a significant challenge for us,” Halligan said.
