Cambodia: Phnom Penh Bans Smoking & Vaping on “Walk Street”

The municipal administration of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, has announced a ban on all smoking and the sale of tobacco products on its popular “Walk Street” as of August 8th. The new regulation aims to promote a clean, green, and healthy tourism environment in the capital.

The prohibition applies to the pedestrianized section of Sisowath Quay, which runs between the Cambodia Post Office and the Royal Palace. This area is open to pedestrians on Saturdays and Sundays from 6 PM to 11 PM. The ban, effective immediately, covers the pedestrian street itself, as well as adjacent sidewalks, parks, and the spaces in front of shops and restaurants.

The directive explicitly outlaws all advertising and sales of traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes (vapes), heated tobacco products (HTPs), and shisha within this zone. “No Smoking” signs will be installed at strategic locations, and authorities are tasked with widely disseminating the information to raise public awareness. The city administration invites merchants, tour operators, and the general public to respect these new rules to reduce the harmful effects of tobacco on public health, the economy, and the environment.
