Bashkiria Introduces Fines for Smoking Vapes and Hookahs in Public
The State Assembly – Kurultai of Bashkiria has introduced fines for smoking vapes and hookahs in public places, as reported by GTRK “Bashkortostan.” The deputies amended the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic, imposing a 500 ruble fine for the first violation and a 1000 ruble fine for repeat offenses.
Konstantin Tolkachev, the chairman of the local parliament, emphasized that the new law equates smoking vapes, electronic cigarettes, and hookahs to tobacco products, extending existing punishments to these devices. The use of devices for consuming nicotine-containing liquids is now prohibited in schools, hospitals, trains, public transport stops, parks, underground and overground pedestrian crossings, and places where public events are held.
This development comes as the legality of vapes in Russia remains an open issue, with deputies having prepared a corresponding bill back in January 2022, according to Alexei Kurinny, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection.
