Bulgarian Passes Bill Banning Vape Sales to Minors

The Bulgarian parliament has adopted a bill in its second and final reading that bans the use and sale of vapes to children under 18. The legislation also prohibits the advertising of vapes on radio and television.

The new law aims to safeguard the health of children under 18 by restricting the use, sale, and advertising of products other than tobacco. Deputies expressed concern over the unknown origin of most of these products and the lack of a ban on their use, which they believe stimulates the emergence of new products with unclear contents. They emphasized that the use of such products often leads to various diseases and increases interest in smoking, with all the ensuing consequences.

In addition to the ban on selling vapes to minors, the bill establishes a ban on the distribution of vapes and prohibits advertising smokeless tobacco products, heated tobacco products, tobacco heating systems, electronic consumption systems, flavors, and liquids for them. The law also bans the use of elements of the trademark and the name known as the name of smokeless tobacco products and vapes in radio and television advertising.

Bulgarian National Radio reports that deputies also intend to consider a bill to limit the consumption of energy drinks among children, further demonstrating their commitment to protecting the health and well-being of the nation’s youth.
