Dallas Expands Smoking Ban to Include Vaping
The Dallas City Council has officially approved the expansion of the city’s smoking laws to include vaping and the use of electronic devices. This significant move aims to prohibit vaping in the same areas where traditional smoking is already banned. The new rules, which will take effect on December 11, 2025, after a one-year grace period for businesses to comply, are designed to ensure that all residents can enjoy cleaner air and a more pleasant environment.
Under the updated definition of smoking, the use of electronic devices and plant products such as marijuana will be prohibited in all indoor spaces, within 15 feet of entrances, and in parks. The city will also update its “No Smoking” signs to reflect the inclusion of electronic devices in the ban.

By expanding the smoking ban to include vaping, Dallas joins a growing list of cities and states across the country that have taken steps to regulate the use of e-cigarettes and protect public health. The one-year grace period for businesses to comply with the new rules is designed to give them time to update their policies and signage, as well as to educate their employees and customers about the changes. The city has also pledged to provide resources and support to businesses to help them navigate the transition.
