Department of Trade and Industry Registers 10 Vape Firms in 2024
Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced that approximately 10 companies involved in the manufacture, distribution, and sale of vape products have registered with the department in 2024. These accredited vape firms have met the standards established by the Office for the Special Mandate on Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products, their Devices, and Novel Tobacco Products (OSMV).
DTI Mandates Certification and Registration of Vape Products
On June 5, the DTI implemented a mandate requiring the certification and registration of vape products, as well as the enforcement of product standards and registration, effective January 2025. Under this mandate, vape products without a Philippine Standard (PS) mark and an Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker for imported products cannot be sold in the local market.
Secretary Roque emphasized the DTI’s goal of ensuring compliance and registration among vape companies to guarantee that the products meet the established standards. She also noted that the majority of the registered vape products are imported.
Vape Law Sets Requirements for Manufacturers and Importers
The Vape Law, officially known as Republic Act 11900, requires manufacturers and importers of Heated Tobacco Product (HTP) consumables, HTP devices, vapor product refills, vapor product devices, and novel tobacco products to register with the DTI. This registration process ensures that these products comply with the standards set by the government.
Only registered products that have met DTI standards and include the necessary health warnings are permitted for sale, advertising, or distribution. Non-compliant products may face immediate recall, a ban, or seizure.
