DTI Suspends 11 Vape Brands for Packaging Violations
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has suspended 11 vape brands due to non-compliant packaging. According to the DTI Consumer Care Facebook page, the department suspended 3 brands on October 4: Nixx, Demon Vape, and Steep N Drip. On October 11, it suspended an additional 9 brands:
- Snowplus
- Instabar
- Denkat
- Geekbar
- Vapengin
- Wave (SirJack)
- Boss
- Nevoks Bar
- Uzoq
The DTI Office for the Special Mandate on Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products (OSMV) cited violations of Section 4 of Republic Act No. 11900, or the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-nicotine products Regulation Act, as the reason for the suspensions. This provision requires vape products to have full-color graphic health warnings occupying 20% of their packaging, along with statements indicating the product’s addictive nature and unsuitability for non-smokers.
Furthermore, vape products must bear fiscal markings or stamps from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). The DTI OSMV only verifies the presence of BIR stamps on the products, leaving the identification of counterfeit stamps to the BIR’s authority.
