Greece to Introduce Stricter Penalties for Selling Vapes to Minors
The Greek government has announced plans to introduce a new bill in Parliament that will impose stricter penalties on businesses caught selling alcohol, electronic cigarettes, and vaping devices to minors. This joint decision by the ministries of Citizen Protection, Justice, and Health comes in response to repeated incidents of alcohol sales to underage individuals.
Under the proposed bill, violators who sell these harmful products to minors could face imprisonment, financial fines, and other administrative penalties, including the immediate closure of the business involved. Ministerial officials have identified past oversights regarding minors’ access to these products, such as a reduction in the number of police officers assigned to enforce the anti-smoking law, minimized penalties, and a decision allowing the use of alcohol by minors at private events during the previous SYRIZA government.
Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting minors, stating, “Everything is now becoming stricter for the protection of minors, with increased enforcement.”
The introduction of this new bill demonstrates the Greek government’s determination to address the issue of underage access to alcohol and vaping products, ensuring a safer environment for the country’s youth.
