Indian Bans E-Cigarettes, Strict Action on Delivery
The Indian government has taken a decisive step in the fight against drug addiction among the country’s youth by banning e-cigarettes. The Director General’s office has sent a letter to police captains in all districts, informing them of the new guidelines and instructing them to take strict action against anyone found selling or delivering e-cigarettes.
In addition to banning the sale of e-cigarettes, the government has also prohibited their online ordering and delivery. The use of e-cigarettes can lead to serious health issues due to the presence of nicotine and other intoxicants. Courier agencies have been instructed not to book or deliver these products.
Following the government’s instructions, police stations across the country have been directed to take strict action if they receive any information about the sale of e-cigarettes. Despite the ban, these products, including e-pens, e-pipes, e-hookahs, and e-cigars, have been openly sold at various price points, gaining popularity among teenagers and young adults in cities. The police will now deal strictly with those found violating the ban.
What are E-Cigarettes?
E-cigarettes are battery-operated devices, similar in size to a pen or lighter, used for vaping. They produce a vapor that is inhaled deep into the lungs, mimicking the sensation of smoking a traditional cigarette. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine in varying amounts, depending on the brand, and may also include flavor enhancers and other chemicals.
SP North Jitendra Kumar Srivastava stated that police stations have been instructed to stop the online delivery and sale of e-cigarettes in shops. He emphasized that strict action will be taken if e-cigarettes are found being sold despite the ban.
