Italian Agency Blocks Over 900 Websites for Illegal E-Cigarette Sales
The Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (Agenzia delle dogane e monopoli) has now blocked a total of 909 websites for the illegal sale of inhalable liquid products or fiscally monopolized goods. The agency’s latest action targets new websites, giving them until December 18 to regularize their position by removing elements or products that cannot be made accessible to private individuals, including ready-to-use liquids and disposable e-cigarettes.
A recent ruling by the Turin Court has further stipulated that vaping products cannot be promoted through commercial offers or advertised with flyers or posters in stores. Retailers can, however, highlight the technical properties of a device or the taste of an aromatic blend, without adding subjective comments or phrases aimed at attracting consumer curiosity or attention. Failure to comply with these guidelines also results in website inhibition and subsequent obscuration.
Agency Takes Decisive Action to Enforce Regulations
The Customs and Monopolies Agency’s efforts to crack down on unauthorized vaping products and promotions demonstrate a commitment to enforcing regulations and protecting consumers. By blocking websites that engage in illegal sales and promotions, the agency aims to create a more regulated and safer market for e-cigarettes and related products.
Retailers and website owners must remain vigilant in complying with the latest regulations and court rulings to avoid facing penalties and website obscuration. As the vaping industry continues to evolve, it is crucial for all stakeholders to stay informed and adapt to the changing legal landscape to ensure a responsible and sustainable market.
