Malaysian Terengganu Bans Vape Sales from August 1st, Joining Other States

Malaysia Vape Ban Terengganu

Move Follows Johor & Kelantan Bans; Selangor Considers Similar Action

The Malaysian state of Terengganu will enforce a complete ban on the sale of vape products effective August 1, 2025, joining other states in taking a hard stance against e-cigarettes. The decision, aimed at curbing negative health impacts, particularly among youth, was confirmed by State Committee Chairman Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah.

Terengganu’s move follows similar long-standing bans implemented in Johor and Kelantan since January 1, 2016. Furthermore, Selangor state officials recently confirmed they are holding meetings to review the need for a similar ban, following police recommendations.

Terengganu’s enforcement will involve refusing new vape business licenses and tightening existing ones. A grace period runs from May 1 to July 31, 2025. After August 1, businesses violating the ban face strict penalties, including fines, seizures, and prosecution. The state will also refuse sponsorships from vape companies.

Support measures, including entrepreneurship courses via Yayasan Pembangunan Usahawan (YPU), will be offered to affected businesses, encouraging transitions to more sustainable sectors as Terengganu aligns with other states restricting vape sales.
