Mexico President Sheinbaum: Vape Ban Could Pass This Year
Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the government continues to analyze legal modifications for the elimination of vaping devices, which could be approved this year.
“The approval process for the elimination of vaping devices is underway. We hope that all the reforms presented on February 5 will pass this year,” Sheinbaum said during the Mañanera del Pueblo, a daily press conference.
She explained that among the reforms sent by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the electoral reform was not approved in committees, but some other issues are still under review, “without changing the essence of what was presented.”
Sheinbaum emphasized, “The vaping reform is there, so that reform has to pass. If you’d like, we’ll invite the Secretary of Health. In a morning conference next month, we’re going to resume having security and health reports on Tuesdays. A very comprehensive program for health care and prevention is being developed.”
On August 13, the Constitutional Points Commission of the Chamber of Deputies endorsed prohibiting the production, distribution, commercialization, and sale of electronic cigarettes, vaping devices, and other similar electronic systems or devices as indicated by law.
