Malaysia Negeri Sembilan Backs Vape Ban, Awaits Clear Laws
The Negeri Sembilan state government fully supports a ban on the sale and use of vapes but is awaiting clear and firm federal regulations before enforcing it, according to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. He emphasized that without specific laws, any prohibition would be ineffective, as sales and usage could continue unchecked.
“The Conference of Rulers has agreed for states to ban vape… However, when there is an agreement but no accompanying regulation, this needs to be reviewed so that laws can be enforced,” Aminuddin stated. He warned against announcing a ban while sales remain rampant, rendering the policy meaningless.
The state will defer to the Federal Government to finalize regulations before officially implementing a ban. Aminuddin noted that under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024, all smoking products must be registered with the Ministry of Health (MOH). He assured that products containing prohibited substances, such as psilocybin from “magic mushrooms,” would not be approved for registration. He also urged security forces and the MOH to intensify efforts to prevent such illicit products from entering the market.
