Malaysian Pahang Imposes Immediate Vape Sales and Use Ban

Malaysia Pahang Vape Ban

Pahang has become the latest Malaysian state to prohibit the sale and use of electronic cigarettes (vapes), with the ban taking immediate effect. The decision follows a fatwa issued by the Pahang Mufti’s Department prohibiting vape use, which was formally conveyed to the State Legal Adviser’s Office in March.

Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad, chairman of the State Islamic Religious Affairs, Rural Development, and Orang Asli Affairs Committee, announced that the matter was presented at the Pahang State Executive Council meeting on May 14 and received the consent of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. The Sultan had previously voiced concerns over rising vape usage and its link to drug addiction cases in the state.

Syed Ibrahim urged local authorities to conduct regular monitoring and educate the public to refrain from vaping. While acknowledging potential difficulties for traders with existing stock, he advised them to gradually stop restocking and called on vapers to prepare to quit. Pahang now joins Perlis, Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor, and Kedah in banning vape products.
