Russia Proposes Ban on Vaping While Driving, 1,500 Fine
Russia plans to introduce a ban on the use of vapes and disposable cigarettes while driving, as part of an effort to tighten control over drivers’ attention to the road. Violators could face a fine of 1,500 rubles, according to the Mash Telegram channel.
The proposed changes would affect paragraph 2.7 of the traffic regulations, which currently prohibits drivers from using a phone without a special stand. Video recording cameras will monitor not only smartphone use but also any other actions that occupy the driver’s hands. The draft amendments are currently in the public discussion stage and will be finalized by October 10, 2023.
