Cannabis and Vape Shop Workers Rank Happiest in Nation
A recent survey has revealed a surprising leader in workplace satisfaction: cannabis dispensary and vape shop employees. According to the Shift Pulse Report from workforce management platform Deputy, an impressive 91.87% of these workers reported being “happy” at the end of their shifts, ranking them higher than any other industry sector surveyed. The findings are based on over 1.5 million anonymized end-of-shift surveys submitted between April 2024 and April 2025.
The report suggests this “remarkable” positive sentiment may stem from factors unique to these newer, regulated industries. As these sectors scale rapidly, they may prioritize employee retention through stronger workplace cultures and competitive wages, leading to higher job satisfaction.
The cannabis and vape sector topped a list of happy industries that also included catering (90.9%), cafes and coffee shops (89.73%), and gyms (89.28%). In contrast, the report identified sectors with the highest rates of “unhappy” workers, providing a stark comparison. General hospitality workers (8.12% unhappy) and hospital workers (8.56% unhappy) were among those with the most negative end-of-shift feedback.

The report also uncovered significant geographical disparities in employee happiness, with South Carolina boasting the highest Net Happiness Score at 98.27%, while North Dakota registered the lowest at just 40%.
