Jersey Considers Banning Disposable Vapes by April 2025
The States Assembly of Jersey will debate a proposition to ban the sale and supply of disposable e-cigarettes starting from April 2025. Constable Andy Jehan has brought the plans forward, aiming to update an existing law on single-use plastics to include the prohibition of disposable vapes.
Jehan cites the high proportion of young people using these devices as a primary concern, along with the environmental impact of improperly disposed vapes. The materials used in single-use e-cigarettes, including plastics, metals, and lithium batteries, contrast starkly with sustainability commitments to reduce waste and promote a circular economy.
If approved, the ban would follow similar moves by the UK and Guernsey, where selling or supplying disposable vapes will become a criminal offense. The earliest date for the States Assembly to debate the proposition is December 10.
