New Zealand Vaping Regulations Effective October 2024
New Zealand has set a deadline of October 1, 2024, for all vaping devices to have removable batteries and child safety mechanisms. From this date, retailers cannot sell any devices that do not meet these requirements.
The change comes as part of the government’s crackdown on youth vaping, which they reconfirmed in March this year. The new regulations also ban vaping products with images of cartoons or toys on the packaging and limit flavor names to generic descriptions.
Previously, the requirement for removable batteries and child safety mechanisms only applied to disposable vaping devices from October 21, 2023. Now, it extends to all vaping devices, including reusable ones.
Retailers, importers, and manufacturers can no longer sell or stock non-compliant products, even if they purchased them before the deadline. Retailers that continue to sell vapes without removable batteries or child safety mechanisms could face fines of up to $50,000, or $400,000 for large companies.
