Malaysia Perak Aims for October Vape Sales Ban
The Perak state government is targeting October to enforce a statewide ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) and vapes. A. Sivanesan, chairman of the state’s human resources and health committee, announced that a working paper on the matter is currently being drafted by the state health department.
“We have instructed the department… to ensure that this working paper can be completed as soon as possible,” Sivanesan stated. He explained that the paper will be presented to the state executive council to decide on its enforcement, which he is aiming for around October. This follows an earlier announcement by Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad that the state was examining the need for such a ban.
Sivanesan acknowledged that the move may cause concern among vape vendors but emphasized that the decision is driven by public health benefits. “We are prepared to receive complaints on this matter, but as long as it benefits the people, we will move forward,” he said after officiating a medical symposium in Ipoh.
