Russia State Duma May Consider Bill Banning Vapes in Spring Session
The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, may consider a bill banning vapes during its spring session, according to Artem Metelev, head of the Duma Committee on Youth Policy. Metelev shared this information in a statement to TASS, a Russian news agency.
“An initiative has been prepared. It is currently being worked out, and a dialogue is ongoing with the government,” Metelev said. “We are very much hoping that we will be able to consider and adopt it during this session.”
The move to ban vapes in Russia has gained momentum in recent months. Earlier, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin called on deputies to develop a cross-faction bill to ban vapes. He argued that the previously adopted measures prohibiting the sale of vapes and vape liquids to minors had proven insufficient to protect children.
Following Volodin’s statement, Metelev announced that deputies had prepared a package of bills banning the production and import of vapes and other nicotine-containing products into Russia.
