Russian Deputy Proposes Total Ban on Vape-Related Content on Social Media

Russia blocks tobacco vape ads

Bryansk Regional Duma Deputy Mikhail Ivanov has called for a comprehensive ban on vaping-related content across social media platforms in Russia. In an appeal to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko, Ivanov highlighted concerns over the uncontrolled promotion of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) online and its impact on youth.

Key Points of the Proposal:

  1. Complete prohibition of vaping device mentions on social media
  2. Stricter control over tobacco and nicotine product circulation
  3. Harsher penalties for selling vaping devices to minors

Ivanov emphasized the role of social networks in popularizing vapor products among young people, citing active discussions about device models, e-liquid flavors, and usage methods on specialized forums.

Expert Opinion

While the proposal aims to protect youth, pulmonologist Vyacheslav Ovechkin noted the lack of scientific evidence linking vapor products to respiratory infections. However, he acknowledged potential effects of e-liquid components on mucous membranes.

This initiative reflects growing concerns over youth vaping in Russia and could significantly impact online discussions and marketing of vaping products if implemented.
