Malaysian Selangor to Announce Vape Sales Ban Decision Soon

Selangor Vape Ban Malaysia

The Selangor state government is expected to announce its decision on whether to ban the sale of vapes and electronic cigarettes within days, according to Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari. The decision will follow the presentation of a policy paper by Health Executive Councilor Jamaliah Jamaluddin to the State Executive Council.

“Either this week or next week, we will decide based on the arguments and facts we have,” Amirudin stated. He emphasized that public health and the well-being of future generations will be the primary considerations, while also acknowledging the need to discuss impacts with vape shop operators and product manufacturers, many of whom are based in Selangor.

This potential ban follows similar actions by other Malaysian states like Terengganu, Perlis, and Kedah, which have moved to prohibit vape sales, joining Johor and Kelantan who implemented such measures years ago. On May 20th, Selangor had already instructed local authorities to seize and remove vape-related advertisements. The push for stricter controls has been amplified by concerns from figures like Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who highlighted links between vaping and new synthetic drug abuse, including fentanyl-laced liquids found with young users.
