World Vapers’ Alliance Delivers 100,000 Signatures Protesting EU’s Vaping Crackdown

World Vapers' Alliance EU vaping crackdown

The World Vapers’ Alliance (WVA) staged a powerful protest at the European Parliament, delivering over 100,000 signatures calling for a radical change in the EU’s stance on vaping and harm reduction. The protest featured a banner and symbolic delivery boxes from all 27 EU member states, highlighting the pan-European scope of this consumer movement.

EU’s Proposed Measures Threaten Progress in Tobacco Harm Reduction

As Sweden showcases the effectiveness of embracing harm reduction strategies, the EU considers measures that could undermine progress across the continent. Proposed flavor bans, restrictions on nicotine pouches, outdoor vaping prohibitions, and increased taxation on reduced-risk products have alarmed health advocates and consumers. These potential policies could push millions of Europeans back towards more harmful traditional cigarettes.

Michael Landl, Director of the WVA, criticized the EU’s current trajectory, stating, “The EU’s misguided crusade against vaping and harm reduction is a public health disaster in the making. The EU must urgently shift its focus to evidence-based policies that save lives and empower consumers to quit smoking for good.”

Sweden’s Success Contrasts EU’s Regressive Policies

Sweden’s openness to harm reduction strategies has resulted in a smoking rate of just over 5%, while projections suggest the EU won’t reach its smoke-free goal until 2100 – 60 years behind schedule.

Landl emphasized the significance of the protest, stating, “Each of these boxes represents thousands of voters from every corner of the EU who are saying ‘enough is enough’. We’re calling on MEPs to listen to their constituents and embrace policies that work.”

WVA Urges EU to Prioritize Consumer Choice and Public Health

The WVA urges EU policymakers to adopt evidence-based regulations that support safer alternatives to smoking. As discussions continue in Brussels, the alliance pledges to amplify the voices of vapers and harm reduction advocates across the continent.
