Putin Supports Full Vape Ban in Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported a proposal to grant regions the authority to implement a complete ban on the sale and distribution of vapes (e-cigarettes). The idea was presented by Gleb Nikitin, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, who expressed his region’s readiness to become a pilot for the initiative.
During a meeting in Sarov, Nikitin raised concerns about the growing use of vapes among children and proposed empowering regions to enact a full prohibition on their retail and wholesale trade. “Consider that I have already agreed immediately. It’s a good proposal,” Putin responded to the idea.
This presidential endorsement follows similar calls from other high-level officials, including Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov, who recently advocated for a “total ban,” citing the ineffectiveness of age limits. Putin himself has previously stated that while vapes may seem fashionable to young people, they are harmful to health, potentially causing issues with the immune system and future fertility. The government has also recently expanded its mandatory product marking system to include e-cigarettes and heated tobacco devices.
