Malaysian Sarawak Considers Banning Vape Product Sales
The Malaysian state of Sarawak is considering a ban on the sale of all vape products due to growing concerns over their link to drug abuse. Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated the proposal has received unanimous support at recent Drug Eradication Action Council meetings.
He highlighted that vaping, once viewed as a smoking alternative, is now being widely misused for drug consumption, with some products found laced with illicit substances causing addiction and hallucinations. While several Malaysian states have issued fatwas against vaping, Abdul Karim noted that federal legislation passed in Parliament would be required to make a ban fully effective nationwide, urging the government to seriously consider the matter from every angle.
