Spain Plans to Expand Public Smoking and Vaping Ban to More Outdoor Areas
The Spanish government is preparing to expand its list of public places where smoking traditional cigarettes and using vapes (e-cigarettes) will be prohibited, El Pais reports. This move aims to ensure healthier and more comfortable spaces for the entire population, with a particular focus on protecting vulnerable groups like children and pregnant women.
The proposed expansion will add several outdoor locations to the existing restricted areas. These include café and restaurant terraces, bus stops, vehicles used for company/enterprise employee transport, university campuses, school playgrounds, public swimming pools, and other public leisure areas. The ban will apply to all products containing traditional tobacco as well as all electronic cigarettes.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that “these innovations are a recognition that everyone has the right not to breathe smoke without their own desire to do so.” Officials are hopeful that the project will be adopted quickly, further strengthening Spain’s anti-smoking and anti-vaping measures.
