Argentina Buenos Aires Province Bill Seeks Vape Ban in Enclosed Public Spaces

Vaping Regulations in Argentina

A new bill has been introduced in the legislature of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, proposing a ban on the use of electronic cigarettes and vapers in all enclosed public access spaces, workplaces, and collective environments. The initiative, presented by legislator Natalia Dziakowski of the Bloque Acuerdo Cívico UCR-Gen, aims to strengthen public health policies focused on prevention and youth protection.

The proposed measure would apply to a wide range of locations, including offices, schools, hospitals, bars, restaurants, public transport, and shopping malls. If passed, the provincial Ministry of Health would be responsible for regulating and enforcing compliance, as well as implementing ongoing public information campaigns.

“The false perception of vaping’s harmlessness is exposing young people and adults to highly toxic substances. This project seeks to protect the collective right to breathe contaminant-free air,” stated Dziakowski. The bill’s rationale highlights the presence of harmful compounds like nicotine, formaldehyde, heavy metals, and ultrafine particles in e-cigarette aerosols, international evidence linking these devices to respiratory diseases, and the constitutional right to a healthy environment.

Dziakowski emphasized that protecting health is a political obligation, particularly concerning children and youth. The project also encourages municipalities within the province to adopt and strengthen local controls, consistent with existing national and provincial tobacco control laws.
