Maine Expands Cannabis Vape Recall Over Pesticide Contamination
Maine’s Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) has significantly expanded a public health recall for flavored cannabis vape cartridges after tests revealed unsafe levels of a prohibited pesticide. The recall, which initially began in October, now includes several additional product batches from the “Yani” brand, produced by NorCO Outdoor Cannabis.
The investigation was first launched following a consumer complaint of an adverse reaction to the “Watermelon Chimera” strain. Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of Chlorfenapyr, an unauthorized pesticide. The expanded recall now adds the “Apples & Bananas,” “Cherry Tartufo,” and “Lemon Cherry Pie” strains to the list of affected products. These items, sold as 0.5-gram and 1-gram live rosin or live resin vape cartridges, were distributed to an expanded list of 26 licensed adult-use retailers across Maine between March and October 2025.
Health officials are issuing a strong warning, as inhaling cannabis contaminated with Chlorfenapyr can lead to serious symptoms, including high fever, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and altered mental status. The OCP urges consumers to check their vape cartridges for the specific batch numbers associated with the recall.
Anyone who has purchased these products is advised not to use them. They should be returned to the retailer or disposed of safely. If you have used any of these products and are experiencing symptoms, you should contact a healthcare provider immediately or call 911 in a medical emergency.
