Mexico: UANL Faculty FACPYA Recognized as 100% Smoke- and Vape-Free Space
The Faculty of Public Accounting and Administration (FACPYA) at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) has been officially recognized by the state Health Secretariat with the “Distintivo Salud” (Health Distinction) award, certifying it as a 100% smoke-free and emissions-free environment. This achievement aligns with UANL’s broader institutional commitment to being a health-promoting university.
This recognition means that the use of traditional cigarettes and, crucially, all electronic devices that generate emissions—such as vapes and e-cigarettes—is now prohibited within all FACPYA facilities. The measure is based on recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) to protect public educational spaces from harmful substances. The goal is to guarantee a clean and safe environment for students, faculty, and administrative staff, thereby reducing exposure to toxic agents and fostering a culture of collective care.
This initiative is part of UANL’s wider strategy to promote health and prevention through informational campaigns and health education workshops across its departments. According to the faculty, creating these safe spaces not only benefits physical health but also enhances social harmony and academic performance by allowing students to develop in optimal conditions. With this distinction, FACPYA reaffirms its commitment to community well-being, innovation, and academic excellence.
