Pennsylvania Bill to Restrict E-Cigarette Sales Awaits Senate Vote
A bill aimed at restricting e-cigarette sales in Pennsylvania is currently awaiting a vote in the State Senate. The proposed legislation would create a state-managed database listing all certified manufacturers and vape products that are legal to sell within the commonwealth.
Supporters of the bill argue that while the FDA requires pre-market tobacco applications (PMTAs) for vape products, the agency does not provide a clear, accessible list of which products have been fully approved. Lawmakers contend this ambiguity prevents the state from effectively enforcing laws to keep illegal vapor products off store shelves and away from youth. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, about one in six high school students in the state currently use tobacco products, with 16% reporting vape use last year.
