Malaysia: Perak to Decide on Vape Sales License Ban Next Month
The Perak state government expects to review a complete working paper on banning the sale of electronic cigarettes (vapes) at its State Executive Council meeting early next month. State Health Committee chairman A. Sivanesan stated that the proposed move will focus on restricting local authorities from issuing new vape sales licenses.
“A blanket ban falls under the federal government’s jurisdiction, but the state government has the authority to prohibit the issuance of the licence to control the sales,” Sivanesan explained. He emphasized that the decision is not a hasty one but a proactive measure to protect public health from diseases linked to vape use.
The state government had previously announced on June 22nd that it intended to implement the ban in October, pending the presentation of the working paper. If the measure is approved, Perak will become the fifth state in Malaysia to prohibit the sale of vapes, following similar actions by other states to curb the availability of these products.
