Rosario Bans Vaping in Enclosed Public Spaces Under New Law
The Municipal Council of Rosario has approved a crucial update to its 2006 smoke-free environments ordinance, officially extending indoor smoking bans to include electronic cigarettes, vaporizers, and heated tobacco products. Under the new regulations, vaping is strictly prohibited in all enclosed public spaces, including the city’s urban passenger transport system.
Councilwoman Carolina Labayru championed the update, drawing parallels to the initial resistance faced by traditional cigarette bans nearly two decades ago. “Just as we adapted to smoke-free spaces in 2006, society will adapt to this,” Labayru stated, dismissing the misconception that vaping is harmless. She emphasized that medical consensus proves secondhand aerosol exposure poses significant health risks to bystanders.
In addition to the physical bans, the updated ordinance outlaws all forms of vape advertising and promotion. To combat the growing popularity of these devices among younger demographics, the city will also roll out targeted educational campaigns highlighting the health risks of electronic nicotine products.
