Russian Prepares for Full Vape Ban During Autumn Session
The Russian State Duma plans to actively prepare a bill for a complete ban on vapes throughout Russia during its autumn session, according to Deputy Speaker Sholban Kara-ool. Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum on September 9th, he stated that while measures restricting sales to minors are in place, they are only a partial solution.
This follows State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin’s announcement in late August that parliament intends to pass a vape ban law within the next two months, noting the initiative has overwhelming support from deputies. Kara-ool emphasized that all factions in the Duma agree with the idea of a full ban and that work on the initiative has been ongoing for over three years. “From the first day of the autumn session, we plan to actively work on the bill… especially considering the support of the head of state,” he said.
Critics of the proposed ban point to perceived double standards, as traditional cigarettes and alcohol remain legal despite their known health risks, suggesting lobbying from the tobacco industry plays a role.
