Uzbekistan Senate Approves Law Banning E-Cigarettes and Related Products
The Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis (Parliament) has approved significant legal amendments aimed at prohibiting the circulation of electronic cigarettes, liquids, and potentially heated tobacco systems within the country. The new law tightens requirements and establishes both administrative and criminal liability for handling these products illegally.
According to the Senate’s press service, the amendments target the illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, sale, import, and export of these items. The stated goal is to ban the circulation of electronic nicotine delivery systems (including e-cigarettes and their liquids) and tobacco heating systems, alongside other tobacco products, to protect public health, life, and the environment.
The law introduces penalties under the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Responsibility for violations. However, it also includes provisions for potential exemption from liability if individuals voluntarily surrender prohibited items and confess to authorities. Senators emphasized the law’s focus on safeguarding citizens from the effects of nicotine products.
