Innokin Zyon Pod Vape Review: Compact and Versatile

Innokin, a renowned name in the vaping industry, has recently introduced the Zyon pod mod as part of their Platform Series. This series, which includes the Kroma Nova and Kroma-A Zenith, has been designed in collaboration with well-known vaping experts Vapingreek and Phil Busardo. The Zyon is a compact, yet powerful device that offers a range of features to satisfy both mouth-to-lung (MTL) and restricted direct lung (RDL) vapers.

Design and Build Quality

The Innokin Zyon boasts a cylindrical body that measures just 100mm by 29mm, making it a truly palm-sized device. Despite its small size, the Zyon feels comfortable to hold thanks to its chunky design. The body is constructed from a combination of zinc alloy and plastic, giving it a sturdy feel.

The device features a large plastic fire button that sits above the OLED screen, running down one side of the device. Below this, you’ll find the USB-C port, which is conveniently positioned to allow for upright charging. On the opposite side, there’s an intake slot for adjustable airflow.

Innokin offers the Zyon in six different colors, including eye-catching options like purple and bright yellow. Some models feature a single color, while others have a contrasting colored plastic section against a black base.

One unique design element is the metal ring that sits around the top of the pod, separate from the main device body. While this ring is held in place with a rubber O-ring and can be rotated or removed, its purpose is not entirely clear. During testing, it was found that the ring sometimes got in the way more than it helped, but it can be easily removed if desired.

Pods and Coils

The Zyon utilizes large, cylindrical pods that match the shape of the device body. These pods have a generous 4.5ml e-liquid capacity, although this is reduced to 2ml in TPD countries due to legal restrictions. The pods are made from tinted plastic, allowing you to view the liquid level, but the metal ring can obstruct this view when in place.

Filling the pods is a simple process, thanks to the bottom-located filling port with a secure silicone bung. However, the filling hole is relatively small, which can be a bit inconvenient when using larger vape juice bottles with wide nozzles. The bottom of the pod also features a tiny plastic tab that needs to be aligned with a slot at the bottom of the pod socket for proper airflow adjustment.

One of the standout features of the Zyon is its compatibility with Innokin’s replaceable PZP coils. These coils are known for their ease of installation, long lifespan, and excellent flavor production. The device comes with a pre-installed 0.6Ω coil and an additional 1.2Ω coil in the box. While the Zyon is technically compatible with all PZP coils, including 1.0Ω and 0.4Ω resistances, the latter may not be suitable due to the device’s maximum output of 25W.

Battery Life and Charging

For a compact, low-power device, the Innokin Zyon impresses with its 1300mAh battery. When using the 0.6Ω coil at the maximum power of 25W, a full charge lasted more than a day. Switching to the 1.2Ω coil and reducing the power to 18W resulted in nearly two full days of use.

Charging the battery takes just over 50 minutes using the supplied USB-C cable, which is reasonable considering the battery capacity and the 0.7A rating of the port. The Zyon also supports passthrough charging, allowing you to vape while the device is plugged in.

This system works well, but the metal ring can sometimes interfere with the process if you’re not careful.

When it comes to performance, the Zyon delivers a satisfying vaping experience. With the airflow closed and the 0.6Ω coil installed, it provides a tight MTL draw. Opening up the airflow and increasing the power allows for a decent RDL vape as well. The PZP coils excel at extracting flavor from your e-liquid, and with proper care, they can last for a considerable amount of time.

One minor issue encountered during testing was a small amount of leaking from the bottom of the pod, particularly when the device was left unused for extended periods. While some leaking is common with pod vapes, it’s worth noting that there are devices on the market that have managed to minimize or eliminate this problem.
