Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies has begun the legislative process for a comprehensive presidential initiative aimed at reforming the General Health Law, with a central component being the total prohibition of electronic cigarettes, vapes, and similar devices. The proposal was formally turned over to an internal commission for analysis on Tuesday, September 30th, marking the start of its legislative review.

The Mexico City Congress has approved a new law to prohibit the use, production, distribution, and sale of electronic cigarettes, vapes, and similar devices in the capital. The initiative, which passed with 46 votes in favor and 3 against, amends both the local constitution and Mexico City’s Health Law to strengthen public health protections, particularly for young people.

A local lawmaker in Mexico City is pushing for the approval of an initiative to ban the use of vapes and electronic cigarettes, aiming to align the capital’s legislation with existing federal prohibitions. Deputy Alberto Vanegas Arenas, representing the Morena party, stated that the Mexico City Congress will soon approve his proposal.
