Malaysia’s Rulers Considers Nationwide Vape Ban Proposal
A proposal to implement a complete ban on the sale and use of vapes (electronic cigarettes) in Malaysia was a key topic of discussion at the 269th Conference of Rulers meeting held at Istana Negara. The potential prohibition was formally noted by the country’s royal leaders, signaling that the issue has reached the highest levels of national deliberation.
According to a statement by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Conference reviewed legal opinions related to the matter from the 126th and 127th Meetings of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) Muzakarah Committee. Resolutions from a 2025 Special Meeting of the Muzakarah Committee concerning vapes were also tabled for consideration.
The meeting, presided over by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and attended by Rulers and representatives from across Malaysia, marks a significant step in the ongoing national debate over e-cigarette regulation. While no final decision was announced, the inclusion of the vape ban proposal on the Conference’s agenda indicates the seriousness with which the matter is being treated by both state and federal authorities.
