Syria Enacts Comprehensive Ban on All E-Cigarette Sales
Syria has officially banned the production, sale, and use of all e-cigarettes. Driven by rising youth consumption and health concerns, Damascus authorities are rolling out aggressive enforcement measures, including product confiscation and mandatory business closures for violators.
Damascus Health Affairs Director Radwan al-Sawak confirmed the sweeping regulatory crackdown via the state news agency SANA. The new mandate completely outlaws the circulation of vaping devices across the country.
Officials point to a rapid surge in youth consumption as the primary catalyst. While initially adopted by a small demographic as a smoking cessation tool, e-cigarettes recently gained massive traction among Syrian teenagers. Al-Sawak argued that easy access accelerates nicotine dependence and acts as a direct gateway back to traditional combustible cigarettes. He also cited links to lung illnesses to justify the prohibition.
Enforcement of the Syria vape ban will be aggressive. City-wide inspections are already ramping up to clear retail shelves. Businesses caught violating the new law face immediate and severe penalties:
- Immediate confiscation and destruction of all vaping inventory.
- A mandatory three-day commercial closure for first-time offenders.
- Extended operational shutdowns and legal action for repeat violations.
This zero-tolerance approach signals a definitive end to the legal vaping market in the region, with the government prioritizing youth prevention over adult harm reduction alternatives.
