UK: Guernsey Sets November 2026 Date for New Vape Tax
Guernsey authorities have confirmed that a new excise duty on vaping products will take effect on November 9, 2026. The decision, approved during the 2026 Budget debate, aims to regulate the distribution of vaping products while generating additional state revenue.
The tax applies to all imported vape liquids, regardless of nicotine content. Importers must declare these products through a Customs Declaration. However, travelers arriving in the Bailiwick are permitted a personal allowance of up to 50ml of vape liquid duty-free.
Deputy Charles Parkinson, Treasury Lead for the Policy and Resources Committee, explained the policy shift:
“Introducing an excise duty on vaping liquids will bring these products into line with other excise goods, such as tobacco and alcohol, and provide a consistent approach to their taxation.”
The government is working with local businesses and importers to prepare them for the new customs requirements before the implementation date. The move follows similar regional tax strategies across the Channel Islands and the UK.
